Item The extent of Adoption of Biblical Principles and Methods ofChild Discipline among N.E.G.S.T. Student Parents(2014-05-15) Makai, PaulTHE EXTENT OF ADOPTION OF BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF CHILD DISCIPLINE AMONG THE N.E.G.S.T. STUDENT PARENTS The purpose of this study was to establish some general biblical principles and methods of child discipline in the family and to test the extent to which they were adopted by the N.E.G.S.T. student community with the intention of making some observations and recommendations. A research was carried out among sixty-six N.E.G.S.T. student parents. These are parents with nursery school and primary school age children. Responses were obtained from all the sixty-six parents. One instrument served in data collection. This was a closed-ended questionnaire which addressed the two areas of biblical principles and biblical methods of child discipline in the family. The instrument used five-point Likert scale rating. The information gathered was analyzed and tabulated. The findings of the survey revealed that eight of the ten identified principles were adopted to a high degree with two others adopted to a low degree. The six identified methods were all adopted to a high degree. Some recommendations were made to sensitise parents more to child discipline in the family. This study also reveals some significant knowledge that is very vital to Christian 'ministers/leaders, especially parents who seek to become role models with children modelled after biblical character and standards.Item Determining Teaching Methods In The Theological Colleges of Kenya(2014-05-15) Nikobari, SimeonThe purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which certain identified teaching strategies are being applied by theological lecturers in the theological colleges of Kenya These are: educational objectives, teaching methods, imitation techniques and questioning. It has been operating for the last twenty-six years and has established itself as a unique cross-cultural ministry in Nairobi. It is a favorite recreational and instructional center for hundreds of Muslim, Ethiopian and Kenyan people who frequent its premises and is said to be known as far as the Middle East. This study sought to describe how the center used its activities as part of its Muslim youth ministry methods, what impression of Christianity that made on them and what implications for cross-cultural mission arise out of that understanding. To do that effectively in a sensitive cross-cultural setting, the researcher used library research, participant observation and ethnographic interviews for data collection purposes. The researcher concluded that the provision of social services is an important preliminary step in cross-cultural mission because it provides a natural environment for interaction. In addition, the higher the level of interaction in the provision of social services, the greater the opportunity for relationship building. Most importantly, the building of relationships based on trust is important for the creation of an environment within which meaningful cross-cultural dialogue can occur. Sports and recreation are important evangelism tools. For that reason, Christian ministries need to view sports not as time-wasting child's play but as the fertile ground for nurturing and disciplining believers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Quite clearly, the center could benefit from training in crosscultural ministry skills through support by other established Muslim evangelism ministries. A number of other study topics arise out of this investigation. The Kenya Mennonite Church is in the process of taking on the full responsibility for the work of this center. They could benefit from an understanding of how an urban church can effectively reach Muslim people. Secondly, sociology of language scholars could investigate the relationship between language patterns and cultural transformation in this setting and its influence on Muslim evangelism. Another area is that of the theology of urban youth music. Young people provide a window into their world through music. This would help enhance our understanding of their worldview with a view to providing holistic and relevant ministry to this age group. Finally, the People of God office could benefit from improved use of the wide array of data available on their work if they could be equipped to employ more analytical methods of data presentation.Item Trainees' perception of relevance of methods used in short-term ministerial training at African Evangelistic Enterprise, Kenya(2014-04-14) Bokwa, Sylvain AtsidriThis study was an attempt to investigate the perception of the relevance of training methods used at African Evangelistic Enterprise (AEE). It was a descriptive study, which was carried out using views of trainees as the basis ofthe investigation. The researcher further investigated the factors that may have influenced trainees' perception. The data collection involved the use of a closed-ended questionnaire, part of which was developed using the Likert Scale of Summated Ratings to determine the view ofthe respondents. The instrument was distributed by the researcher personally to 30 trainees. The Chi- square test of independence was the statistical instrument used. It was discovered that generally, majority of the trainees perceived training methods used at AEE as relevant. The findings revealed that trainees attest to the high relevance of discussion, lecture/instruction, mentoring/coaching, field trip and, practicum/internship and wished that the methods could be used most frequently. What came out clearly from the study was that it was not the frequency with which a training method was used that mattered, but the issue was relevance. It was therefore recommended that trainers employ training methods that would prove relevant for the training at AEE.
