Item Tense and aAspect in the Kikuyu Speech form of the Kiambu district : a discussion of Indicative Sentences including Negative Past Constructions(2014-05-19) Robertson, Joanna ReillyItem Tense, Aspect and Mood in Lunyole grammar and narrative Discourse(2014-05-19) Namulemu, Enoch WanderaTense, aspect and mood playa crucial 'role in grammar and discourse of a language. This study focuses on the distribution of tense and aspect in Lunyole grammar and narrative discourse. Lunyole is one of those languages that highly grammaticalize the parameter of time. The language has a three tense system subdivided into eight distinct tenses and six aspectual categories. In this work, I give a detailed discussion of these tenses and aspect categories and how they function in the grammar and discourse of Lunyole. Since this work is the first detailed study of this subject, I hope it will provide a foundation for those who will do further linguistic study of the Lunyole language in future. I also hope it will go a long way in helping the Lunyole Bible Translation and Literacy team understand the nuances of the tense/aspect system as it affects translation and literacy work.Item Grammaticalization and Discourse use of Tense, Aspect, & Mode in Lugwere(2014-05-16) Nzogi, Richard KiffaliThe object of this paper is to introduce the nature of tense, aspect, and mode (TAM) in Lugwere, a Bantu language spoken in Eastern Uganda. Basic emphasis is on the morpho syntax relevant to the encoding of TAM notions and their basic meanings. As a way of verifying the findings herein, the paper sources its illustrative material from four discourse genres (texts), the examples of which are given verbatim as in the texts except for the numbering. Where the feature under description is nonexistent in the texts, the paper uses individual grammatical strings formulated with native-speaker intuition, and given in a systematic numerical progression at times alongside the discourse examples. I am also aware that it is one thing to describe the internal structure of the grammar of a language and another thing to know when, and where in a discourse should one use a given form, and not another. Thus, I also review the distribution and role of TAM in discourse as a tool in establishing the motivation for the use of the TAM categories. In conclusion, observations of immediate linguistic value are made and further research proposed.Item Tense, Aspect and Modality in Lelemi Narrative discourse(2014-05-16) Divine, MununkumThe purpose ofthis study was an attempt to document Lelemi tense, aspect and mood. There are primers and post- primer literature in the language that are being used in adult literacy programme in the Lelemi community. The Lelemi New Testament has been published and is being used in the churches. I have not however, found any work done exclusively on the grammar of the language. This project therefore, is to describe tense, aspect and modality in Lelemi in a formal way using linguistics theories I have learnt in class. I have also devoted the third chapter to discourse analysis and shown how important it is to the study ofthe grammar of the language.Item Tense, Mood and Aspect in the Ngbandi language(2014-05-15) Mbagesi, Crispin
