Item The Church and the War-affected Youth : a study of the Karen Free Methodist Church(2014-05-16) Walker, Dennis NyamiehThe research was a qualitative descriptive study that inquired into the needs of the war-affected youth in the Karen Free Methodist Church and how the needs are being met. Data was collected by means of survey questionnaires. Four pastors, one youth leader, eleven war-affected youth, six parents. and six Kenyan youth completed the specific group questionnaires. The study revealed that over 60% of the respondents attending the Karen Free Methodist Church are aware of the needs of the war-affected youth in the Church. The specific needs of the war-affected youth in the Karen Free Methodist church focused on the psychological, economic/material and spiritual categories. The findings across all of the groups indicate that over 60% of the respondents reported that love and acceptance were the major psychological needs of the war-affected youth. Almost 50% of the respondents in the Pastors Nouth Leader and Parents' Groups revealed that counseling in the area of trauma healing is a need of the war-affected youth attending the Karen Free Methodist Church. The economic/material needs that were observed as major themes in the study were money, food, clothing, education and shelter. There were no major differences noted in the needs of the war-affected youth and the Kenyan youth attending the Karen Free Methodist Church. It was revealed that the Karen Free Methodist tend not to be meeting the needs of the youth in the Church. It was recommended among other things, that the Karen Free Methodist Church train and develop interested persons to focus on youth ministry, set up a youth center, be involved in trauma counseling and develop good family-based youth ministry.Item A survey of the youth programmes in Buru Buru Kenya Assemblies of God Church, Nariobi(2014-04-24) Acila, Amos OdulThe purpose of this study was to survey the various youth programmes at Buru Buru Kenya Assemblies of God Church, Nairobi, with the intention of making recommendations towards improving the programme. The main areas of inquiry. which were foundational to this survey, were the youth themselves, the youth leader's and a ncl teachers. and precedents gleaned from the review of related literature. One instrument. a set of Questionnaires, was formulated. The instrument consisted of closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The information gathered was analysed and summarized by use of various tabulations. The findings of the survey showed the following things about Buru Buru Kenya Assemblies of God Church youth Programmes: 1. The local church has a variety of youth programmes. However, there is need to incorporate those pertaining to physical And recreational activities in order to make the programmes wholistic. 2. Though the youth programmes in the local church have so far produced youth who are strong in their devotional life as evidenced by their individual participation n in Bible study and prayers, the areas of ministry involvement are weak. 3. The youth’s perceived problems major on lack of varieties in methodology of the programmes and lack of regular contact with their leaders and teachers. On the whole, their perception 01' the problems hindering the growth of youth programmes in the local Church are leadership related, a view also shared by their leaders and teachers. 4... The youth leaders and t teachers perceived p problems hindering Growth of youth proqramme as primarily related to lack of study materials and the need for training . The author recommended training to equip leaders and workers for ministry, the need to understand and accept the youth at their various developmental stages; to select and appoint a youth pastor for proper implementation and administration of the youth programmes and to adopt a youth manual for general guidelines. All these should be backed UP.Item Youth perception on the effectiveness of the youth ministry at Destiny Worship Centre Lang'ata in their spiritual nurture(2014-04-16) Mutweia, Justus katumoThe study explored the Youth perception on the effectiveness of the Youth Ministry at Destiny Worship Centre Church Langata. The data was collected through face- to -face semi-structured interviews with seven participants, and were recorded and transcribed. Observation was also done in two of the youth meetings and activities. The findings revealed that there was less effectiveness in the youth ministry at Destiny Worship Centre Langata, pointing to the activities, programmes and ways the youth ministry is conducted. The study further affirmed that youth need a variant of holistic approach and strategies to be able to attain spiritual growth and nurture in a given setting. A model of interrelationships between various activities and programs was advanced and recommendations made to the youth, the church, youth leaders, and other concerned persons on the best way to make the program effective to nurturing the youth in their spiritual life. This would lead the youth to evaluate their growth and invoke a closer relationship with God.Item An evaluation of the Nairobi Baptist Church youth programme(2014-04-16) Morenammele, Joseph MosueunyaneThis study sought to ascertain whether or not there was a logical relationship between the planned activities and the intended objectives of the Nairobi Baptist Church (N.B.C.) youth programme. The main source of data N.B.C.). youth programme official document. Further data which were basically supplementary gathered by means of questionnaires and interviews. The three components of evaluation namely; description , Criteria (youth objectives )and Judgment we re us ed. The analysis and interpretation of data revealed that most of the activities of the youth programme were fairly appropriate for the intended objectives, rating between 41 and 60%. Thus, the level of appropriateness was judged to be far below what would be expected of an ide a l youth proqramme, which would be in the range of 81 to 100 % This research has. fur-ther recommended the following to the youth I.The youth youth programme objective should be made on the basis of verified youth felt needs. 2. Ac t ivitie s should be related to objectives to ensure relevance, and for every objective there must be a specific activity that is geared to meeting it. 3. All activities must be set in such a way that they are measurable, attainable and specific, in order to be achieved. {,.. ,.\non --q0 i n9 rev ie w 0 f the youth programmes sho uld be made i n consultation with the youth themselves.Item study of youth programmes in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya Itierio congregation(2014-04-16) Miruka, John MosetiThe purpose of this study was to test the relationship between the lack of sound leadership including a good youth policy document and the good performance of the church's youth programmes. The researcher anticipated that his perception that, the programmes are not performing as expected and therefore would be able to provide useful suggestions to establish a means of accessing and improving programmes performance Youth and their leaders passed information about what was happening in the congregation to the researcher. Information collected was about the programmes and their performance .The researcher had formulated open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires, which helped in a simple systematic way to collect data and eventually analyse and categorize it. Various tables were used to give summaries of data collected. After completing the exercise of collecting, analysing and tabulating data, interpretation and discussions were made on the same. The findings of the study indicated the following; 1. Female youth were many in the church. 2. Camp meeting ranked first among the most preferred programmes. 3. Participation from the youth was expected especially in those programmes that promoted their spiritual life. 4 .Poor leadership and lack of a youth policy document among other perceived causes were pointed out to be major contributory factors for the poor performance of the programmes in the church. 5. Improving leadership related areas and allowing God to intervene in the congregation's work would help programmes perform effectively and have an impact on the participants. The researcher also suggested the following; 1. That the congregation authority need to understand all youth with a view of providing relevant programmes that will meet their needs. 2. That the youth should be well equipped to study the bible on their own and as groups with zest so that they can improve their devotional lives. 3. That programmes that emphasize the physical development should be included among the list of activities offered in the church 4. That the administration should look into issues of leadership, good youth policy document among others in order to improve and make the programmes be effective and efficient in accomplishing their goals. 5. The congregation in liaison with other congregations should work to review the church-wide constitution particularly the article that stipulate that youth are those between ages 13 and 21 .Item Reasons why the youth desert church at teenage :a study of Kagumo Fullgospel Local Church Assembly(2014-04-16) Thuo, Gerald IregiThis research was done to find out why the youth desert church at teenage. The objective was to find out the role of the foundations laid at Sunday school level, the role of parents and the kind of programs that appeal to the youth. Grounded theory was chosen for the research. Nine teenagers were interviewed, five of who were active and four who were inactive in church programs. Six youth leaders were involved in the focus group discussion. It emerged that poor input by the church leaders in establishing appropriate programs and training teachers for this age group led to them leaving the church. Other factors had to do with the senior youth's attitude towards the teenagers, lack of sufficient parental support and negative influence from peers. The research established that despite the good foundation laid in Sunday school, more needs to be done to maintain the teenagers in church. The parents and the church leaders ought to play a more active role to motivate the youth to remain active in church. The youth need to be fully involved, their talents recognized and used within the church for them to remain active. It was recommended that the youth group be reorganized taking into consideration their age brackets and more interesting and involving activities should be included in the programs.Item Pastors' perceptions of relevance of youth ministry in Pentecostal Church of Kiremba (Burundi)(2014-04-16) Nkunzimana, OscarThe purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions of pastors of Pentecostal Church of Kiremba. The study focus was four areas of the youth ministry. These are: Rationale, goals, contents, and style. Information was collected through administration of questionnaire. The study population was the thirty pastors of the Pentecostal Church of Kiremba. They were grouped into four categories: Older/Trained, Older/Untrained, Younger/Trained and Younger/Untrained pastors. The research questions were the following: 1. What perceptions do the Pentecostal Church of Kiremba pastors have about the rationale of youth ministry? 2. What perceptions, do the Pentecostal church of Kiremba pastors have about the goals of youth ministry? 3. What perceptions, do the Pentecostal church of Kiremba pastors have about the content of youth ministry? 4. What perceptions, do the Pentecostal church of Kiremba pastors have about the style of youth ministry? 5. Are there any substantial differences in perceptions among the pastors of Pentecostal church of Kiremba? The results revealed that the pastors of Pentecostal Church of Kiremba at the time of the study did not have one perception of youth ministry. The four categories of pastors mentioned above held different opinions of youth ministry. The pastors' perceptions of youth ministry revealed some inclination towards evangelism and discipleship as their major interest in youth ministry. Based on the findings from the study, recommendations were made to the Church to listen to the youths in order to know their felt needs and expectations and thus offer a youth ministry that is pertinent to its young people. The Church should tap the potentials of youths by permitting them to take a fitting share in planning and running youth ministry.Item The influence of music on the spiritual development of youth :a study of Nairobi Gospel Centre and Lifespring Chapel(2014-04-11) Nyagah, Esther F.WThis study explored the influence of music on the spiritual development of the youth. Two churches in Nairobi, Lifespring Chapel and Nairobi Gospel Centre were selected. Data were collected through face to face semi-structured interviews with fourteen participants, and were recorded and transcribed. Observation was also done in a music concert in Lifespring chapel. The findings revealed that the influence of music on the youth is holistic, reflecting in three major developmental domains (emotional, mental and social). The study revealed that youth can either respond to music's influence Christianly or worldly. It is the Christian response that leads to spiritual development while worldly response leads to spiritual decline. A visual model of the interrelationships between the developmental domains was advanced and recommendations made to parents of youth, church leaders, the youth, media and music composers regarding the best ways to meet the needs of the youth through music as well as leading them to a closer relationship with God.
