Item The influence of sunday school on the spiritual development of children : Karinde Free Methodist Church(2014-04-17) Mattah, Nereah AdalaThe purpose of this research was to find out the extent to which the Free Methodist Church Sunday school has had an impact on the spiritual development of children of ages 6-14. The main areas of inquiry, which were foundational to this study, are the parents of the children aged between 6-14 and the Sunday school curriculum used in the Karinde Free Methodist Church. The instruments, which were formulated and used, included questionnaires for parents and teachers. The questionnaires consisted of closed-ended and open-ended questions. There were also interview questions for the children. The information gathered was analyzed and summarized by use of various tables and graphs where necessary. The findings of the study revealed the following about the Karinde Free Methodist Church Sunday school. The influence of the Sunday school in the learners' relationship with God was weak. Its influence on the children's relationship with other people was strong. It had very weak influence on the learners' relationship with nature (their environment). The regularity with whichlearners practiced lessons learnt about God was weak. Practice of lessons learnt about relating with other people was strong while practice of lessons learnt about nature was very weak. The writer recommends that the church considers training the Sunday school teachers thereby equipping them for the noble ministry to children and that the children be divided up in the Sunday school according to age groups to enable teachers minister adequately to them bearing in mind the unique characteristics of particular age groups. The church could draw a regular budget to equip the Sunday school with modem learning facilities. Parents ought to be more involved in the spiritual nurture of their children by going through the lessons learnt in Sunday school with them and helping them to apply the same in their lives.Item Exploration of factors that influence the spiritual development of unmarried single mothers in a local church(2014-04-14) Mutai, RachelThe purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of Unmarried Single Mothers and develop a theory of the factors that influence the perception of their spiritual development. Interviews were carried out with nine unmarried single mothers who are members of a local church. Observations as well as participations were also done with the group as they met for church activities and fellowship meetings. The key factor that emerged was what the researcher has termed as the "revolutionary point" whereby the unmarried single mother comes to a point in time where she experiences freedom from her inner struggles and past experiences. At that point of time, a realization is reached and with a conviction within, leading to a turning point which results in a positive self-perception and interpretation of people's perceptions of her. Secondary to the revolutionary point was the support systems, which the research showed paved the way to the revolutionary point or strengthened the results of the revolutionary point experience. The two factors, revolutionary point and support systems, had an impact in the way that the single mother responded to life challenges and the perception of others as well as her own perceptions. One's daily experiences, as an individual or as she interacted with the society were explored. From the findings, recommendations were suggested in developing an understanding of the needs of the unmarried single mothers and helping them to grow spiritually to reach the potential that God requires of them as members of the body of Christ. At the same time calling on them to a life of purity and integrity as they seek to be nurtured spiritually.Item Factors contributing to spiritual development of teenagers in NEGST(2014-04-14) Isoka, Shihemi JItem The influence of music on the spiritual development of youth :a study of Nairobi Gospel Centre and Lifespring Chapel(2014-04-11) Nyagah, Esther F.WThis study explored the influence of music on the spiritual development of the youth. Two churches in Nairobi, Lifespring Chapel and Nairobi Gospel Centre were selected. Data were collected through face to face semi-structured interviews with fourteen participants, and were recorded and transcribed. Observation was also done in a music concert in Lifespring chapel. The findings revealed that the influence of music on the youth is holistic, reflecting in three major developmental domains (emotional, mental and social). The study revealed that youth can either respond to music's influence Christianly or worldly. It is the Christian response that leads to spiritual development while worldly response leads to spiritual decline. A visual model of the interrelationships between the developmental domains was advanced and recommendations made to parents of youth, church leaders, the youth, media and music composers regarding the best ways to meet the needs of the youth through music as well as leading them to a closer relationship with God.
