Item A Historical study of the factors that led to the Development of Jitegemea in the Presbyterian Church of East Africa(2014-05-20) Mindo, Joy WambuiJitegemea appears in the logo of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and it is the official working philosophy of the General Assembly, the highest court of the church. The study seeks to find out how the concept of Jitegemea and the historical events that facilitated its adoption in the church. This is a historical study that seeks to investigate the factors that led to the development of Jitegemea-in the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. The research consults documents from the PCEA archives situated at St. Andrews Church in Nairobi, the National Library in Edinburgh and open-ended interviews with the people who were involved in the development of Jitegemea. The study covers the period between 1950 and 1975, when missionaries of the Church of Scotland were handing over leadership to the national leaders. A review of the literature gives vital information for the church prior to 1950 and the background information on the events that led to the events for the adoption of Jitegemea. It provides lessons for the Church in Africa for the success and dangers in the development of an indigenous Presbyterian church in Kenya.Item Effective Leadership Development in Urban Kenyan Churches : an evaluation of Key Leadership PrinciplesTaught on theInternship Programmes of Five Select Nairobi Churches(2014-05-19) Kikuyu, David MasidzaThis study was an evaluation of key principles of leadership that are taught on the internship programme of five select churches in Nairobi. The primary method of data collection was by way of a questionnaire. This questionnaire consisted primarily of close-ended questions, mainly due to the nature of the research. Its intention was to determine the perspective of the respondents in regards to the principles of leadership taught to them on their respective internships. In order to derive this information adequately, the researcher developed three research questions. He further raised twenty nine items that would clarify in detail the intention of the research questions posed. It was faintly discovered that there were three key principles of leadership which were taught on these internship programmes in general. These were Planning, Delegation and Vision. However, it was also observed that principles of leadership are not strongly taught on the internship programmes of these five churches.Item Factors that Account for Growth or Non-growth : a study on the Growth and Development of the Eastleigh (section 3) Pentecostal Assemblies of God in the Bahati region - Nairobi(2014-05-16) Asante, Emmanuel CollinsIt was in the urban context that the Eastleigh Pentecostal Assemblies of God church was born in 1975. In that early setting it struggled, thrived and grew. Today, the Eastleigh Pentecostal Assemblies of God has plateaued. The Eastleigh church today cannot be said to be an excellent model of harmony and effectiveness. It seems to be minced in mediocrity. To attempt to enhance a glorious resurrection from its urban grave, the researcher engaged in an investigation of the malady of this church. This study, therefore, is concerned with describing and analysing the growth and development of the Eastleigh PAG church by identifying the factors which made for growth or non-growth. The grave situation is that the church does not express herself as an urban church. The church has not been contextualized from an earlier ruralism, in her mentality, nor does she even exist as a reaction against the urban psyche. However, this researcher demonstrates that there is a departure from the ideals which made the church grow. These ideals include: Bible study, corporate prayer, oneness and evangelism. Also to be revealed is the frequent transfer of pastors and the tribal factor which have had a negative effect on the growth of the church. For the study, the descriptive method was used as the research design. In one aspect of carrying out the research, the Eastleigh church was diagrammed and in another the researcher quantified the population earmarked for the research. The tools employed to procure data were questionnaires (both structured and unstructured for four different kinds of respondents)personal interviews, the researcher's personal case history (having participated in the church for the past six years) and library resources. The observed causes of blocked growth are diagnosed and principles that will enhance growth are suggested. While calling the church to return to the ideals of Bible study, corporate prayer and evangelism, the researcher also suggests the "Integrative Multifarious Principle" which is a contextualized form of McGavran's Homogeneous Unit Principle as a method of carrying out evangelism and planting churches. This should enable pastors and the members to evangelize cross-culturally.Item A study into the Factors Inhibiting the Development of Missionary Vision in CECA-20, Democratic Republic of Congo(2014-05-12) Edre, Enosh Anguandia AdiaThe present study was intended to find out the factors inhibiting the development of missionary vision in CECA-20, Democratic Republic of Congo. In this descriptive research, the church leadership in CECA-20 was the target population. A sample was drawn from Aru District and Bunia Section. Church council members were interviewed in fifteen selected local churches. Twenty-five denominational leaders were sent a questionnaire, of which only two did not return. The findings revealed that the basic hindrance to missionary vision in CECA- 20 is the leadership style of the church. The centralization of the church leadership stifles the zeal and initiatives of local congregations ofbelievers. Pastors in local churches seem to be carrying the work alone. The findings also reveal that there is an absence of expository teaching of the word of God in local churches being studied. Pastors lack information on unreached people and cross-cultural outreach. Based on these findings, there is great need for decentralizing the church leadership in CECA-20, by a return to the biblical leadership pattern. Church members need to be made disciples in order for them" to do the work of God and build up the church". Biblical teaching of the whole counsel of God must be urgently provided to believers. The training programs for pastors must consider the aforementioned factors. There is need also to research significant areas of the church in CECA-20 to open the church to worldwide missions.Item Perceptions of impact of Christian religious education on the moral development of teenage boys at Lubinu Boys Secondary School(2014-05-08) Magomere, Elka MusafuThis study aimed at finding out the perceptions of teenagers on the impact of C.R.E. on their moral development. It specifically focused on teenagers at Lubinu Boys' Secondary School in Western Province in Kenya. The study was quantitative and data were gathered from the school. A questionnaire was designed to collect data from the teenagers. It was administered personally. Respondents included teenagers from thirteen years to twenty and from form two to form four. The researcher wanted to know the opinions of the teenagers on the impact of C.R.E. on their moral development, and whether these opinions were related to factors such as their attitude towards C.R.E., content taught, teacher's lifestyle, methodology used or peer influence. The findings reveal that most teenagers perceived C.R.E. to have had a big impact on their moral development even though this was not related to their attitude towards it, or the demographics. However the perceptions were found to be related to the teaching style. The responses showed that greater focus should be put on how to make the lessons interesting and well understood. Moreover the respondents overwhelmingly felt that their teachers do not make efforts to know them. Based on the data gathered, recommendations were made to teacher training institutes, policy makers, and C.R.E. teachers on seeking ways to personify the Christian moral values and norms and for better articulation of the same.Item The impact of organizational development program on the nationalization process in Free Pentecostal Fellowship in Kenya from 1997 to 2007(2014-04-22) Andhoga, Walter OtienoThis research seeks to investigate the impact of Organizational Development (OD) program on the nationalization process of Free Pentecostal Fellowship in Kenya (F.P.F.K) from a missionary led Church organization to a national led Church from 1997 to 2007. Specifically it seeks to investigate the impact OD program has created on national leadership in F.P.F.K, find out whether through OD nationalization process has been achieved, and if the national leaders have embraced the changes produced as result of the OD program The results of this research show that OD program is successful in the nationalization process of F.P.F .K.The mission and vision of the organization has been understood by the leaders at the national level. The policies and manuals have been formulated and implemented at the national level and that leaders at the national level have been positive about the changes introduced as a result of the OD program. A sense of national identity has been created and the church has become an active partner in the civil society. However, the challenge with the structure of the organization is that it does not give leadership authority to individual leaders. Leaders have understood their responsibilities without depending on the former missionaries. They have taken firm control of running the organization and their presence is felt throughout the organization. The capacity of the national leaders has been built through different trainings offered through OD, which has made them achieve management skills in running the organization. This is a positive development in F.P.F.K. Based on these findings, it is necessary that any nationalization process be initiated early to prepare the leaders for hand over before the expatriates leave. OD should be an ongoing process in the organization so that leaders are developed and equipped without waiting until the time for hand over is ripe. Since running an OD process requires a lot of finances, the churches should be sensitized to start development accounts which can be used in the training of leaders. Emphasis should be made in all congregations so that they may continually contribute to this account and be willing to send more leaders for the training. In addition partners from the overseas should not withdraw their funding quickly as soon as they hand over leadership to the locals but they should do it gradually.Item Adolescent spirituality : age of conversion and spiritual development in selected Christian universities in Kenya and its implications for youth ministry(2014-04-16) Nzigo, OnesiphoreThis study was a replication of Lamport's study. Its purpose was to find out similarities or differences to Lamport's study to justify more confidence in the validity of research findings and determine the degree to which findings apply to other populations when different subjects at a different time and in a different setting are used. The Master of Arts students at Daystar University responded to the questionnaire related to the age of conversion, and the undergraduate students at Africa Nazarene University responded to the questionnaire related to the spiritual development facet. Based on the research questions, this study dealt with the age of conversion, the extent to which males and females differ in age of conversion, the most common contributing factors in becoming a Christian, the major influencing factors for spiritual growth in adolescents, the extent to which adolescents differ in spiritual growth when raised in homes where Christian influence is strong, medium, little, or non-existent. Findings of this study showed that adolescence is the prime age of conversion and that males become Christians earlier than females. However, there was no significant difference for males and females in factors influencing spiritual growth. Home, parents, school, the reading of the Bible and other Christian materials, music and Bible studies were found to be the most influencing factors for conversion and spiritual development.Item Factors inhibiting the development of Curriculum materials for Christian Education Ministries in the Africa Gospel Church, Kenya(2014-04-11) Koske, Stanley Kiplang'atDynamic and rapid changes in the current society call for urgent attention in the area of curriculum development in the church. Such demands require curriculum developers to study new conditions and their implications for church education. Although evangelical churches in Africa are currently involved in improving the shape of Christian education curriculum, it is being faced with a number of challenges. Africa Gospel Church (AGC) is no exception. Compelled by the inadequacy of curriculum materials for all age groups in the AGC plus the continued halting of curriculum development, the researcher embarked on this study. The study sought to investigate the factors inhibiting the development of curriculum materials for CE ministries in the AGC. The study further aimed at exploring some ways for improving the development of curriculum materials in the church. This was a descriptive study, which employed a case study research design. In the study, two crucial questions were addressed. Data was gathered from forty individuals through self-administered questionnaires. The validity of the instrument was determined by a jury test which was given to ten students from the Educational Studies Department at NEGST. Data was analyzed statistically and presented based on the research questions and hypotheses. In this procedure, six null hypotheses were tested using a Chi-square test of independence at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that six factors were perceived to be inhibiting the development of curriculum materials for CE ministries in the AGC. The factors were lack of training in curriculum, lack of funds, lack of cooperation, lack of planning, lack of curriculum evaluation and lack of emphasis on Christian education. Major recommendations were (1) AGC needs to mobilize local churches to financially contribute toward curriculum material development, (2) CE curriculum materials need to be evaluated and revised periodically and (3) church leaders at all levels of the AGC structure should trust and support (cooperate with) the curriculum committees in their endeavors to draw plans and produce relevant materials.Item Factors Affecting The Development Of Curriculum Materials In The African Inland Church Of Kenya(2014-04-11) Olla, Woza WoyitaThis study reports an attempt to ascertain the extent to which certain perceived factors affect the development of curriculum materials at Africa Inland Church of Kenya. It was a descriptive study which was done by using the opinion of curriculum materials writers, project leaders and materials users (teachers and students) in that church. Three sets of instruments prepared by the researcher were administered and provided data for analysis. The data gathered from the respondents and the corresponding interpretations provided answers to the research questions were asked. Based on the findings possible conclusions and recommendations were made to curriculum materials writers, and project leaders on how to bring improvement in curriculum material development work. Findings of this study showed that the majority of the perceived factors are affecting the materials production work negatively. Some of the factors which are supposed to put positive impact, such as leadership and relationship among the workers, are affecting the work negatively. Above all the study ascertained that the AlC curriculum materials development project is heavily under the influence of negative factors. Thus this study calls out for urgent remedy on how to deal with those factors that affect the project negatively.
