Examination of Ordination of Women as Church Ministers and Leaders in East Africa Pentecostal Churches :a case study of Tharaka North District.
    (2014-05-21) Kaibiru, Albert Kathenya
This study exarrunes the perceptions held by leaders in EAPC on women ordination and leadership. A qualitative study and data collected using face to face open ended interviews that were recorded and transcribed. The report reveals that, there is no known theological stand on the issue of women ordination. The church has not formulated any universal church doctrine that could be passed on to her members as an official church view. Much of what is being practiced is based on cultural inclinations and each chooses what to believe as a leader and passes it on in his area of jurisdiction.

An Examination of factors Affecting Church Growth of Good News Africa Gospel Church in Nairobi, Kenya
    (2014-05-21) Ouma, James
The study stemmed from the need to understand the factors that have hindered quantitative church growth at Good News Africa Gospel Church (GNAGC) despite its location in a densely populated area in Nairobi. It became apparent that the results of such an undertaking would provide both theoretical and practical platform for the development of sound mission strategies that would cause the church to advance towards God's intention for it. There are abundant literature that covers church growth phenomenon and principles pertinent to the biblical and practical ways that deal with churches. However, recent African scholarships have paid little attention to church growth phenomenon irrespective of increasing challenges that several churches are experiencing especially in fast growing cities in Africa. The 35 participants interviewed in the study were drawn from the GNAGC and other churches where former members of GNAGC fellowship on Sunday. Frequency tables and cross-tabulation were generated using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Software application in order to provide deep insights of the variables under investigation. The findings of the study have shown that the GNAGC was not growing quantitatively as the church expected because of problems related to lack of commitment by church leaders particularly in the area of evangelism. It was concluded that GNAGC was not growing quantitatively. This conclusion paved way for recommendations that appeal to the need for church leadership to come up with programs that will foster togetherness and team work in the church for effective communication and common vision.

The 2007 December post-election violence in Naivasha Town and its Effect upon the church.
    (2014-05-08) Mbaluka, Paul Ndivo
The purpose of this study was to discover the factors which led to the failure during the election preparation and consequences of the 2007 post-election violence in Naivasha and how the church was affected. In order to achieve this purpose, research was carried out whereby data was collected through observations, discussions in groups, and face to face structured interviews with twelve participants, two police officers, two IDPs, two pastors, two youths (Mungiki members), two civil servants and two people from different ethnic background that were targeted (Luo, Kalenjin). The findings revealed five categories of causative factors leading to the 2007 December post-election violence in Naivasha. These factors include political, land, revenge, tribalism and poverty issues. The Naivasha post-election violence that erupted in late January 2008 was revengeful though the above other factors played a key role. The research has examined the consequences and what should be put in place in order to avoid the same from happening again. This study has revealed that though the church has been in one way or another blamed for its failure in lack of providing the right information during the 2007 political campaigns; it is the same institution in a strategic position of ensuring true forgiveness and reconciliation. The reconciliation must first begin with the church itself whereby disunity and segmentation among the Christian body must be dealt with first. Based on these findings, the following recommendations are made: the government to put in place an independed ECK, punishment of the perpetrators, putting in place of the civic education, introduction of the poverty eradication schemes, constitution review among others. Recommendations were given that since the Church is not blamed so much among the Naivasha residents, it should take the initiative of rendering timely seminars and workshops on forgiveness and reconciliation to the community.

An evaluation of the women's ministry programs in Kenya Assemblies f God Church-Buruburu
    (2014-05-08) Odhiambo, Susan
This study was an evaluation of the programs of Kenya Assemblies of God Women's Ministry (KAGWM) in relation to relevance with the ministry's objectives and the needs of the women represented. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relevance of the programs offered by KAGWM with its objectives and the needs of the women. The objectives of the study are: to establish how the programs offered by the KAGWM assist the women in meeting their ministry objectives; to determine how the programs of KAGWM relate to the needs of the women and to realize how the programs equip women to become mature Christians. The findings and recommendation of this study will serve as a guide to the KAGWM leaders in evaluating how their programs are related to the objectives of the ministry. Qualitative research paradigm is used in this evaluation since it required the aspect of describing how the program imparts the members. The researcher used purposeful sampling in selecting the interviewees. The reason for purposeful sampling was to get women who were actively involved and would give useful information. The instruments used were interview guides that had open-ended questions as seen in appendix I and 2. In order to develop the instrument the researcher considered the objectives of the study. The findings revealed that the programs ofKAGWM were formulated to attain the ministries objectives. No ministry objective was left without a channel in order to be realized. The finding also viewed that the needs of the single ladies were not being considered. In view of the above aspects, the leaders of the KAGWM should re-examine the objectives of the ministry to see if they can come up with some that can help build the morale of the women. The KAGWM leaders need to formulate a program that specifically deals with the needs of the single ladies in order to have all the needs of the women met. The leadership ofKAGWM should have a representative from all the groups.

A study of the factors that prevent church leaders from implementing theological education by extension in the A.C.K. MT. Kenya Central Diocese
    (2014-05-07) Mwangi, Danson Kihwaga
TEE is a theological education program where the content, motives and skills are based on the Bible and theology. Students attain new attitude and knowledge and improve their ministry skills. It is extension education because training programs are brought to where the people are. Nevertheless, it has been verified that this enterprise has not penetrated to many of our churches due to several factors. A research done at the A.c.K. Diocese of Mt. Kenya Central verified that the key factors impending the establishment and expansion of TEE work in many of our churches include: ignorance, apathy or indifference, negative attitude towards education, poverty, lack of established TEE leadership and administrative structures, lack of proper time planning, unclear perception of the roles of the vicar, the group leader and the coordinator and failure to recognize the importance of certificates. For this reason, continuous TEE awareness campaigns, thorough periodical bulletins and visits by the coordinator can enlighten the people about TEE. Secondly, the curriculum should be flexible so as to attract a variety of students especially those in the teaching profession. Also, the Christians ought to be enlightened on the importance of education. We should promote literacy from all fronts. Equally important is decentralization of TEE administrative structures. Similarly, the coordinator should ensure that students get the learning materials and certificates on time. Finally, TEE should be established as a continuous training program with advancement opportunities where students get certificates from recognized theological institutions.
