Abstract:
Imperative mood is the form of the verb used in issuing direct commands or
orders and they are restricted to second person in both singular and plural. Hortatives
are verbs which may be used to encourage people to do something, to express wishes,
or exhortation. In this paper I have attempted to describe the imperatives and hortatives
in Vwanji particularly the forms and functions. Chapter one includes the background
information about the people and the language. Chapter two is about imperatives and in
Chapter three I have described the hortatives. Also I have discussed in brief the question
of politeness. Finally the conclusion which includes the summary of the paper and
suggestion on what I have researched.
